Mild steel equal angles, also called L angles or angle iron, are the most used secondary section in UAE fabrication. Both legs are the same length, so the section works the same way whichever way it is turned, which makes it the default for bracing, cleats, frames and general workshop steel. Seen Steel supplies equal angles from 25 x 25 up to 200 x 200, cut to length and delivered to all seven emirates.

Sizes and weights

Standard length is 6 m. Weights are approximate, calculated from the section geometry at 7.85 g/cm³.

Size (mm) Thickness (mm) Approx. kg per metre
25 x 25 3 / 4 1.12 / 1.45
30 x 30 3 / 4 1.36 / 1.78
40 x 40 3 / 4 / 5 1.84 / 2.42 / 2.97
50 x 50 4 / 5 / 6 3.06 / 3.77 / 4.47
60 x 60 5 / 6 / 8 4.57 / 5.42 / 7.09
65 x 65 6 / 8 5.91 / 7.66
75 x 75 6 / 8 / 10 6.85 / 8.99 / 11.0
80 x 80 8 / 10 9.63 / 11.9
90 x 90 8 / 10 10.9 / 13.4
100 x 100 8 / 10 / 12 12.2 / 15.0 / 17.8
120 x 120 10 / 12 18.2 / 21.6
150 x 150 10 / 12 / 15 23.0 / 27.3 / 33.8
200 x 200 16 / 20 47.1 / 58.4

To work out any angle yourself: kg per metre = (leg A + leg B − thickness) × thickness × 0.00785, with all dimensions in mm. The real section is slightly heavier because of the root radius, so treat the figure as an estimate and invoice against the mill certificate. The full method is in our steel weight chart.

Equal or unequal

Equal angle is the right choice when load can come either way or when the angle is simply a frame member. Where one leg needs to be longer, to give a wider bolted face or more stiffness in one direction, use an unequal angle instead.

Grades and standards

  • Dimensions: BS 4848 Part 4, EN 10056-1 or JIS G3192 depending on origin
  • Material: EN 10025-2 S235JR or S275JR, ASTM A36, or JIS SS400
  • Galvanized: hot dip to EN ISO 1461 on request for external work

Our guide to steel grades explains how these compare. For anything outdoors in the UAE, galvanize the angle or paint it properly, because bare angle rusts fast in coastal air.

Common applications

  • Bracing and cleats in structural steelwork
  • Frames for gates, doors, grilles and grating
  • Tower, mast and transmission structures
  • Edge protection, trims and corner guards
  • Machinery bases, brackets and supports
  • Racking, shelving and mezzanine framing

Cutting and delivery

We supply 6 m lengths or cut to your list, including mitred and drilled pieces on request. Deliveries go to workshops and sites across all seven emirates, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Mussafah, Sajaa, Ajman Industrial and Al Hamra. Mill test certificates are supplied with the material.

Buying angle from Seen Steel

Who buys equal angle from us

  • Fabrication workshops building frames, brackets and supports across Sharjah and Ajman industrial areas
  • Gate, railing and fencing makers working from their own drawings
  • Shelving, racking and mezzanine builders who order the same few sizes every month
  • MEP and ducting contractors needing angle for hangers, cleats and plant supports
  • Signage and facade companies framing panels and substructure

Cut to length, not sold by the bar

Most suppliers hand you 6 metre lengths and the drop is your problem. If your drawing calls for 2.2 m pieces, a full length gives you two and leaves 1.6 m on the floor that you paid for. Send the cutting list instead and the angle arrives at the lengths you actually need, with the cutting included in the price rather than added to it. On a mixed list the sizes get nested across the lengths to keep the waste down.

Black or galvanized

Angle is supplied black as standard, which is uncoated hot rolled, and that is what nearly all fabrication starts with. Where the finished item sits outdoors, hot dip galvanizing after fabrication to EN ISO 1461 is the right route, because the cut ends and the welds get covered along with everything else. Tell us at the enquiry stage if the angle is going for galvanizing, since it changes nothing about the material but changes how you want it cut and marked.

Where we deliver

Angle goes out to every emirate: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain. Bundled lengths need a reasonable run alongside the truck, so tell us if the delivery is into a workshop unit rather than an open yard, and whether you have a forklift on site.

What comes with the material

  • Mill test certificates issued with the delivery, grade and heat number stated
  • Delivery date confirmed in writing with the quotation, not after the order is placed
  • A quote priced against your line items, so you can check it against the drawing

Sizes, weights and the full chart

Our steel angle sizes and weight chart for the UAE gives every standard equal and unequal size with kg per metre and kg per 6 m length, plus the formula for working out any size yourself. The short version for equal angle: multiply leg plus leg minus thickness by the thickness, then by 0.00785.

What to send for a quote

  • Size and thickness, for example 50 x 50 x 5
  • Grade, if your drawing specifies one
  • Black or galvanized
  • Lengths or cutting list, and quantity
  • Delivery location

Frequently asked questions

What is the weight of a 50 x 50 x 5 angle?
About 3.8 kg per metre, so roughly 23 kg for a 6 m length.

What is angle iron?
The everyday name for mild steel angle, an L shaped hot rolled section.

What is the biggest equal angle you supply?
200 x 200 mm, normally in 16 or 20 mm thickness.

Can you galvanize the angle?
Yes, hot dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 can be arranged. Tell us at enquiry stage, because it adds time to the delivery.

Do you supply mill test certificates?
Yes, MTCs are issued with the material.
