Mild steel chequered sheet, also called chequered plate or tear drop plate, is hot rolled steel with a raised pattern on one face that gives grip underfoot. It is the standard choice for floors, stair treads, ramps, platforms, trench covers and vehicle floors across the UAE. Seen Steel supplies chequered sheets from about 2 mm to 20 mm in standard sizes, or cut to your dimensions, delivered to all seven emirates.
Sizes and weights
Standard sizes are 1219 x 2438 mm (4 x 8 ft), 1500 x 6000 mm and 2000 x 6000 mm. Chequered plate is specified by its base thickness, not including the pattern. The raised pattern adds roughly 2 to 3 kg per m², depending on the mill.

Patterns and grades
- Tear drop pattern: the most common in the UAE, with raised lens shaped lugs.
- Diamond pattern: raised diamonds, often preferred for vehicle and trailer floors.
- Grades: ASTM A36, SS400 and EN 10025 S235JR or S275JR.
Mild steel, galvanized or grating
Bare chequered plate must be painted for outdoor use in the UAE, and it collects water and sand on open platforms. For external walkways, drainage covers and coastal sites, GI gratings are often the better choice because they drain, let light through and come hot dip galvanized. Chequered plate is best for enclosed floors, stair treads, ramps and anything that must be solid.

We supply full sheets or cut to your sizes, including stair treads to your drawing. Deliveries go to workshops and sites across all seven emirates, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Mussafah, Sajaa, Ajman Industrial and Al Hamra. Mill test certificates are supplied with the material.

What is the weight of a 3 mm chequered plate?
About 26 to 27 kg per square metre, depending on the pattern. Plain 3 mm plate is 23.55 kg.
Is chequered plate the same as tear drop plate?
Tear drop is the most common chequered plate pattern, so the names are often used for the same thing.
What sizes are available?
1219 x 2438 mm, 1500 x 6000 mm and 2000 x 6000 mm are standard, and we cut to size.
Do you supply galvanized chequered plate?
On request. For external floors, GI grating is often a better and cheaper option.
Do you supply mill test certificates?
Yes, MTCs are issued with the material.
