Hot rolled steel plate, often called MS plate, is thick flat steel used where strength and stiffness matter: base plates, connection plates, stiffeners, machinery bases, tank shells and heavy fabrication. Seen Steel supplies hot rolled plates from 5 mm up to 100 mm thick in standard mill sizes, or cut to your dimensions, delivered to all seven emirates.
Plate sizes and weights
Standard plate sizes are 1500 x 6000 mm and 2000 x 6000 mm, with 2500 x 6000 mm and longer plates available on request. Weights are calculated at 7.85 kg per m² per mm of thickness.

Grades and standards
- General structural: ASTM A36, JIS G3101 SS400, EN 10025 S235JR and S275JR
- Higher strength: EN 10025 S355JR, S355J2 and ASTM A572 Grade 50
- Impact tested: J0 and J2 grades where the specification calls for toughness at low temperature
Thicker plate has a lower guaranteed yield in the EN grades, so check the thickness band as well as the grade name. Our guide to steel grades explains how this works and what the suffixes mean.
Plate or sheet
In the trade, material under about 5 or 6 mm is usually called sheet and thicker material plate. For thinner work see our hot rolled sheets, and for walkways and stair treads see chequered plate.

Cutting and delivery
We supply full plates or cut to your sizes, including strips and base plates to your drawing. Deliveries go to workshops and sites across all seven emirates, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Mussafah, Sajaa, Ajman Industrial and Al Hamra. Mill test certificates are supplied with the material.

What is the weight of a 10 mm steel plate?
About 78.5 kg per square metre, or roughly 706 kg for a 1500 x 6000 mm plate.
What is the most common structural plate grade in the UAE?
S275JR and ASTM A36 for general work, and S355 for heavier structures. Supply whatever the drawing specifies.
Can you cut plates to size?
Yes. Send your cutting list or drawing and we price the cut pieces.
What is MS plate?
MS plate means mild steel plate, which is hot rolled carbon steel plate in commercial or structural grades.
