UPN channels are the European standard hot rolled U sections, also called U channels or C channels on site. The flanges are tapered on the inside, which is the quickest way to tell a UPN from a parallel flange channel. Seen Steel supplies UPN 80 to UPN 400 in S235, S275 and S355, cut to length and delivered to all seven emirates.

The UPN number is the section depth in mm. Standard length is 12 m, with 6 m and cut lengths available.

Tapered or parallel flange
UPN flanges taper towards the tip, so a bolt head or washer sits on a slope and usually needs a tapered washer. Parallel flange channels (PFC) have flat inner faces, which makes bolting and connections simpler. If your detail relies on a flat flange, check which channel the drawing specifies before ordering.

Channels are drawn in three systems in the UAE. For the British parallel flange profile see PFC channels, and for the Japanese profile see JIS channels. They are not interchangeable: the flange shape and the section properties differ, so check what the drawing actually calls for.

Cutting and delivery
We supply 12 m or 6 m lengths, or cut to your list so you are not scrapping offcuts. Deliveries go to workshops and sites across all seven emirates, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Mussafah, Sajaa, Ajman Industrial and Al Hamra. Mill test certificates are supplied with the material.

What does UPN mean?

C channel is the everyday name for the shape. UPN is one specific standard for it, with tapered flanges.
